The Helen Woodward Animal Center is a unique, private, non-profit organization in San Diego County committed to their philosophy of “people helping animals and animals helping people through trust, unconditional love, and respect, [which] creates a legacy of caring.” The Center takes in animals, particularly ones that are about to be euthanized at other shelters, to their no-kill center and provides humane care and adoption for animals, as well as provides services that benefit the community through educational and therapeutic programs for people using rehabilitated animals. The center also created a AniMeals program to provide food and treats to animals that are part of the “Meals-on-Wheels” program and can’t otherwise provide for their pets. This includes free weekly distribution of food for pets of the elderly, AIDS patients, and disabled people throughout San Diego County, to ensure nutritious meals for their beloved pets.
